Rumors: Marvel may get Fantastic 4 back in exchange for X-Men Tv Rights

Hey O&G fans, the rumor mill is a buzz that Marvel will get the Fantastic 4 back in exchange for giving fox two X-Men series (and Characters) TV rights that were announced yesterday.

Den of Geek does caution that they don’t have independent verification of what their source told them, but it’s hard to discount the possibility. Marvel’s through-2020 slate does have three untitled movies on their schedule, and one is supposedly Fantastic Four. The source says that the rights reverting back to Marvel include ancillary characters such as Doctor Doom, Galactus and the Silver Surfer.

Interestingly, the deals for Legion and Hellfire were announced as a partnership between 20th Century Fox and Marvel Television, as opposed to Marvel Studios. The Kevin Feige-controlled Marvel Studios reportedly recently left the control of the larger Marvel Entertainment unbrella, which still includes Marvel Television.

Until someone from Fox or Marvel comes forward to confirm this story, all we can do is wait and see what happens.

Kick-Ass Creator Mark Millar launches Global Talent Search Contest

Award-winning writer and film producer Mark Millar is launching a worldwide talent search for new artists and writers, so budding creators listen up as the search is on from 28th Sept – 30th Nov 2015.

As Mark explains, “There seems to be a real disconnect between genuinely talented and skilled students at schools, colleges and universities getting in to the comic-book industry. I want to provide a platform to enable these creative people to showcase their talents and, most importantly, to get published and paid.”

Artists and writers can upload an example of their work on the Millarworld website and a shortlist of six writers and six artists will be selected and partnered up. Artist submissions are now being accepted and writer submissions will be accepted from next week.  The selected creators will be allowed to work on specific Millarworld characters, and paid the Marvel and DC starter rates. The stories will appear in the ‘Millarworld Annual 2016' comic-book, a not-for-profit comic-book available in all comic-stores.

Millar goes on to say, “Working in comics is the best job in the world. It’s what I’ve wanted to do since I was five and it’s genuinely a thrill to switch on my computer every morning. If I can help in some small way to get other people started with this special annual every year it’ll be an honour. I really couldn’t recommend this career more highly."

The Flash as a New God and Justice League: Gods and Men is retitled

Six one-shots are spinning out of the current "Darkseid War" event in DC's Justice League in October and November, and they're getting a new name. The Justice League: Gods & Men one-shots will now be titled Justice League: Darkseid War; fitting, especially considering possible confusion with the current animated series (and comic book series)  Justice League: Gods & Monsters.

In addition to that, we have the first look at what the Flash will look like when he becomes a New God -- the Black Racer, in fact -- in September 30's Justice League #44 by series artist Jason Fabok.

Mary Jane Parker Joins Invincible Iron Man

Starting in December's Invincible Iron Man #4, Peter Parker's ex-wife Mary Jane Watson will become a regular part of Tony Stark's supporting cast. This is a marked change from the past, where Watson has been part of the Amazing Spider-Man and associated Spidey titles as a character.

Despite the change, writer Brian Michael Bendis confirms that the pair do already know each other.

“They know each other. She used to live in Avengers Tower. But that’s all I’m going to say for now because what kind of relationship they end up having is a big part of what I would like people to buy the book for."

While Bendis was hesitant to disclose the exact nature of their relationship, he did say it was 'new.'

"What I can tell you is that it is new territory for both Tony and Mary Jane. And that is pretty exciting to write.”

“I [have] spent most of my time at Marvel writing the teenage version of Mary Jane [in Ultimate Spider-Man],” he continued. “This is a grown-up woman who has been through a lot. She seems like one of those characters that went down certain paths that may not have panned out the way she hoped; and she’s ready for a kick ass second act.”

Invincible Iron Man features David Marquez on art, and launches in October, with #4 releasing in December.

TV News: Netflix Daredevil series cast District Attorney Blake Towers

Hey O&G fans, After a great first season on Netflix, Daredevil is getting ready for another action packed season. Actor Stephen Rider has been hired to play New York City District Attorney Blake Tower in the new season. Rider, who co-starred in the award-winning film Lee Daniels' The Butler, will reportedly be a regular for the Marvel/Netflix show's second season, and will be an ally for Matt Murdock.

In comic books, Blake Tower had much the same role. As a NYC D.A., Tower had a good working relationship with Captain America, Daredevil, She-Hulk, and Misty Knight. For a time, the former Blonde Phantom, Louise Mason, worked for Mason as a legal secretary, and even opened the door for She-Hulk to work for him as an attorney for a time.

Daredevil is currently filming its second season, and is expected to air sometime in 2016.

Justice League: Gods and Monsters Review

Hey O&G fans, Justice League: Gods and Monsters is the latest DC animated film. This marks the return of Bruce Timm to the series of films he helped to begin back in 2007. Written by Bruce Timm and Alan Burnett– both veterans of the DC animated TV universe– and directed by Sam Liu, this movie has the great story and action you expect from DC animated films.

As always here is a synopsis of the film:

In an alternate universe, the Justice League uses brutal force to maintain order on Earth. When scientists begin dying, the world's governments challenge the League's dominance.

REVIEW

The Movie was AWESOME!! The film opens (stop me if you've heard this story) on Kypton with a familiar scene we all know, in Jor-El’s lab with Lara as the planet nears its end. But wait True Comic Fans, this story has a dark twist. General Zod come busting in as Jor El is about to imprint his DNA into his son's pod. Zod shoots Jor El and uses his DNA for the pod and Lar Zod is sent to earth as the last son of Kypton instead. The baby is discovered by a Mexican couple, both poor workers, who decide to raise baby Zod as their own, and name him Hernan Guerra. (DC comics readers might recognize baby Zod as the same one from the Geoff Johns story Last Son, where he was raised by Clark Kent and Lois Lane as Chris Kent.)

Batman and Wonder Women have similar flash backs to how their lives began. Batman afflicted by a disease desperately searching for a cure, turns himself into a vampire. Wonder Women was the promised bride to Darkseids son to bring the waring kingdoms together. After her father planned an assassination and succeeded, she turned on her family and fled to earth.

The voice acting is one of the best I've heard from a DC Movie. Michael C. Hall giving Batman an eerie, undead monotone, Benjamin Bratt capturing the boldness of Superman with a hard Zod edge. Tamara Taylor was absolutely great as Wonder Women, switching from powerful to vulnerable to outraged on a dime. The animation is solid reminds me of Batman and Superman TAS. Bruce Timm and Alan Burnett have successfully delivered a fresh and exciting take on the Justice League by turning them into dark mirrors of the heroic icons we know so well. If you want to know the full and deeper story about all three Justice League members, you can check out the 3 issue series released by DC Comics.

Justice League: Gods and Monsters  will be released on DVD and Blu Ray on July 28th 2015.
