X-Men Days of Future Past ( Mobile Game ) Review

X-Men Days of Future Past, the mobile game follows the plot of the popular comic book. Not the plot of the film starring Hugh Jackman. This game returns to classic beat em up gameplay that we love from the 90's.

Story- The world around you is in ruins. Sentinel robots have enslaved most of the United States and are set to stage a global war. The X-Men have failed; the few who survived this nightmarish future are imprisoned in Mutant Internment camps. But all is not lost, the battle for the future can be fought in the past. With one chance to re-write history, the X-Men must stop this war by preventing the assassination of Senator Kelly.

The story is told through gameplay and text cutscenes. It does a good job of highlighting the main points of the comic. It's great to actually see Wolverine interacting with Kitty as they battle the Sentinels. The way the story is told does the book justice. However don't expect some deep characterization from this.

Gameplay - The gameplay is focus on a 2.5 D side scroller. Players will utilize the touch screen controls to control your favorite mutant. Just like any classic beat em up, you have your attack button, special button and jump button. As you make your way through each area, enemies become more of a challenge till you meet the stage boss.  The game features RPG elements, which allows to upgrade your characters attacks, increase health and even acquire new outfits. The more the story progress the more X-Men you will be available to use. Honestly the best person to use is Wolverine, due to his attacks being the best with any situation. Cyclops is THE WORST CHARACTER TO USE. The problem with Cyclops is his standard attack is his blast. However he needs time to recharge it. This leaves you vulnerable to open attacks. The enemy a.i. is easy to difficult as the game goes on. The boss battles are fun but nothing truly epic. However for nostalgic feel this is a beat em up you might want to check.

Graphics:  The graphics are 2.5D with great use of 3d textures for the background. The use of color and design gives the player a comic book feel.

Music - The music is pretty decent. Nothing really that will have you hoping for a OST release. 

Final Grade B-/8.0: Good graphics, old school gameplay and justice to the comic. For the price of a comic book its time for you to go into the past.

When it comes to the design LifeProof also did a great job. This case is one of the tiniest case I’ve ever seen. It gives you all this protection than other cases out in the market. Other cases are bulkier and if it’s tinier you don’t get the same protection. They also come in different colors and design for you own liking. They made two versions of the case frē and nüüd .

Frē: Built-in scratch protector completely safeguards touchscreen.
Nüüd: Screen less technology that lets you touch actual touchscreen

I’ve used both frē and nüüd cases and I will say both are great. The only bad thing I can say is that the frē didn’t last long due to wear and tear. The material that they use was rubber so after using on a day to day  baisis, of in and out of the pocket the rubber starts wearing off. Before you know it the front part started to fill-off then the scratch protector came off. But with that being said the case did protect my iPhone for almost two years and it did save my phone multiple times. I drop my phone in the pool and lost it for more than 30 minutes. When I finally found it, the phone was still working. I also drop my phone so many times and my phone didn’t get a scratch or crack on it. I feel that nüüd case is a little better than the frē due to the material that was use. The nüüd case is more of a hard plastic material that I thing is more durable than the rubber. Even if your screen is exposed LifeProof does provide a little screen protector. Also nüüd case all around body is built a little sturdier than the frē.

The bad thing about the case that I think a lot of people are having problems with is the price. The frē cost $79.99 and the nüüd $89.99. With this price people do back-out on buying it. However if you really think about it. The case is worth the price, due to the fact that it protects your phone or tablet completely. Do the math buying all the cheap case does add up at the end. In addition you’re not protecting your device completely. The other flaw is that the slot of the charger is only allowing you to use the original charging cable or something close to it. Anything bigger than what is provided won’t fit. In addition they only made cases for iPhone (4,4s, 5, 5c, 5s), iPad (2/3/4,mini,Air), iPod (Gen 4and 5) and Samsung Galaxy (S3, S4,S5). Overall this case is still by far the best case I have use. The case is durable, protects your device completely, and totally gives you the freedom that you need. If you're looking for the best case, I suggest that you get this and if want to get the best price check is out on amazon.com

World of Tanks Blitz Review

Do you like shooting games? Do you like Tanks?  Well lucky for you the developers from Wargaming.net made a game for you. World of Tanks is the latest mobile game from Wargaming.net. How does the game hold up? Is this worth checking out? Or should you give this war game a treaty?

First I must say this game really wowed me. That is all due to the amazing graphics and controls of the game. I played the game for a a couple of days and now I'm hook. I love the fact that they gave you a quick tutorial on how to play the game. I found this useful because it gave me time to get a feel for the game. While the graphics are great for a mobile platform, the controls on the iPhone 5 was difficult. The controls feels like it was designed for a bigger screen or platform. However if you play this on an iPad mini or even the regular iPad this game is just wow.

This game is really addicting and you keep playing it over and over. If you're a fan of tanks and shooting you might want to check it out. The only downfall of this game was it's a little to slow framerate wise from time to time. The game play of using strategy and planning things out, making sure you get the right equip upgrade before battles is really great. The battle itself play out well. I just didn't like the fact that the tanks move slow. 

But that just me. So if you ask me what I will have this game?

Nomino Review

Nomino is a new game app created by actor Dulè Hill, Talitha Watkins and Designer Rochelle Thwaites. The concept of this game is really unique. It takes the popular practice of posting photos online, then changes it into an interactive game. This challenges users to identify the subject of the photo or video in order to earn coins. The more coins you earn, the more you have to get  a prize. I've played the game for a few and I find it a bit challenging. The picture that was put up was random which made it even more challenging. However at the same time it's easy to answer. The reason for this is anyone can cheat on this game by Googling the answers. I highly suggest that they tweak the game a little. Maybe they can add a time limit so users won't have a chance to cheat. 

Overall this game is user friendly. However I just wish in the beginning of the game, they add a quick tutorial on how to use the app. The concept of earning points and getting prizes is great. However it will be better if there's more prizes. I know that the app is still young and has a lot more potential. I just can't help but think that they need to update the layout of the app. The layout needs to have the flow of the image and video go continually.

 After playing the game for almost a couple of hours. I only accumulate almost about 8,000 coins. This means I only averaged on answering 11 questions a day. That's why I really recommend that they give more rewards, or winning prizes for this game. Getting 395,000 points meant I have to average 24 questions a day. That being said the game will get iterating and people will lost interest on playing.

Nomino is available for iPad and iPhone in the AppStore, an Android version of Nomino is slated for release in mid-July.

Office Politics Mobile Game Review

Justin: Here is the review of the I-Phone game "Office Politics." The review was done by Keenan (Bess) who use to be on the site. I asked him to check this game out and review it for us. Check out what Keenan had to say. 

Office Politics: Back stab a game by 'Little Drummer boy is wack a mole game with a modern day twist. Upon receiving the request to review this game I was intrigued as well as excited, because having worked in the office environment for the last 9 years, I have witnessed plenty of back stabbing in the corporate world. Did it live up to my expectations or was I the one who got back stabbed at the end? 

 

Gameplay

Solid & Fun are the 1st two adjectives that come to mind. The goal of the game is to back stab your way to the top. Back stabbing is fun and easy, all you have to do is tap on a co-workers back. If a co-worker is facing you and you tap on him, he will attack you causing you to lose life. Its simple pick and play gameplay, as the game progresses this becomes a little tricky. More and more co-workers/enemies pop up on screen as well as a boss who makes the back stabbing difficult with various special powers. This becomes pretty fun as it makes each level unique but none the less the goal remains the same....back stab as many people as you can. Often times I grew tired of the monotony. The game does offer to change things up by allowing you to change characters you play, each character has 2 unique moves to combat the bosses of each of the respective levels.

After stabbing 2 floors of the office consecutively you get a chance to battle the boss in his/her office. Side note: I would love to battle my boss in her office. This is where the game shines! Each boss is unique and the way you defeat each one is so innovative I must say. Even throwing in finishing moves with a street fighter super move like finish at the end. If you fail you go right back down the elevator back to floor one which at times was frustrating, but it made me focus more on the boss which increased the intensity of the boss fight which subsequently lead to more fun.

 

Audio & Visual

The game soundtrack is solid as well as the sound effects. I was a little disappointed by the fact that I couldn't use my own soundtrack while playing the game as I did with a few other iphone game.

Visuals are amazing in this game! The character designs are amazing. They're drawn great,animated great as well as being funny. Level 6 has a boss that has big breast and blonde hair who's special move lures all the co workers to attack you at once. The variety of characters will make you love this game.

 

Replay Value

Tons of unlockables in this game. Unfortunately 90 % of the game is locked from the start. You start out with one stage and one character unlocked. Unlocking the 1st few characters and stages no problem but after a while it becomes ridiculous. Combing challenges in game as well as obtaining achievements just to unlock one character is a bit much. Oh can I pick the muscle guy to play with?!? Oh I have to complete the game on hard with Office Bimbo(a character) & get ALL of the gold trophies.....by the way just to pick Office Bimbo you have to beat the game with another character and do similar task. That leads to playing the same 5-6 boards over and over. Some might love this while others might say screw it and spend their idle time elsewhere.

The Dark Knight Rises Mobile Game Review

Christopher Nolan's Batman has not seen a game adaptation since his first installment "Batman Begins" for the PS2, XBOX & Gamecube. Well at last Nolan's Batman is back in the gaming world well sort of. Batman is back in Mobile gaming form with "The Dark Knight Rises." Is this the game that we deserve?


Story - The story follows key plot points from The Dark Knight Rises film. It's been eight years after The Dark Knight and Batman is retired. It features all the key points from the movie, with a little more to give you more playing time. All the key characters are here from Selina Kyle, John Blake, Bane, Alfred, Gordon and many more. It does give away key plot points so if you have yet to see the movie play till after your seen it.


Gameplay - When I first saw the trailer for the game. I admit I thought this was just going to be a beat em up type of game. Then when I finally brought the game needless to say I was surprised. The Dark Knight Rises is a free roam, action adventure game. Free roam for mobile I thought well it should be with a download of 1.7 GB. The gameplay is done very well. Developers at Gameloft have giving us an entire Gotham City to explore. It's not as big as console version of Gotham City, but for a mobile game it gives us a good map to explore. The game plays into six chapters for the story then leaving you with a free roam part which consider several missions for Batman to complete. Missions can range from stopping thugs, saving civilians, chase sequences and more.


The combat in TDKR is very smooth. It utilizes the free flow fighting style that you see similar in Arkham City, only done the best way a mobile game can execute it. The game is held horizontally while Batman is control by a touch screen analog. You can use the screen to switch the camera views, which can be tricky and sometimes get in the way. However with a little practice you will get use to it, but driving the vehicles and aiming the camera can be a chore sometimes. It wouldn't be a Batman game without his toys and this game has a good amount. Batpod, The Bat and a couple of gadgets are all accessible. The game even features a nice upgrading system which will be a hit or miss with players. The hits is that the more Batman level ups the more equipment he is able to access. Batman will have more attacks, more effect, better armor and more. The miss is that some upgrades require you to spend real money. This is will turn off some folks but most of those upgrades aren't really needed, it's just for extra usage. The only real complaint is the game is relatively easy, it does have some of challenging parts like fighting Bane, but otherwise enemies will fall with a couple of punches.


Gameplay Video


Graphics - The graphics is really good. Gameloft went all out on this one to give us a very dark tone world of Gotham City. You even see some key Gotham locations such as Wayne Tower, Gotham Railroad and The Pit. The frame rate works well on my Samsung Galaxy 2, there have been notable problems with other phones, such as a pink line appearing during gameplay. However I didn't have any of those problems. I also enjoy the great addition of weather in this game. The rain, thunder and lighting effects is a welcome addition to Gotham. Character designs is a hit or miss. Batman and Bruce Wayne looks awesome. Selina Kyle, John Blake and Bane are all done well, some of the thugs look choppy but it doesn't hurt the game.


Sound - The voice acting is done well. Batman sounds just Bale, Gordon, Alfred, John Blake are all done well. However Bane and Miranda Tate sound nothing like the actors but it doesn't matter. The music is whatever you want it to be. If you have TDKR OST on your phone, turn off the game music and play the soundtrack to get that actual music. The game music is done very well, some from the actual movie or made to sound just like Hans Zimmer OST. 


Replay Value - The game is fun enough to play over again and again. Plus the addition to the free roam missions after the game should keep you busy while your traveling.


Final Grade B+/8.5 - The Dark Knight Rises is the game we deserved and the game that we needed. It has some issues, but overall it's one of the best mobile games I've played. It's worth the price of $7 bucks. Great gameplay, great production and most importantly fun to play. 

Carpet Ball (App Review)

Carpet Ball is a new Mobile App game available for I-Phone/ I-Pad users. The idea of the game is knock all of your opponents balls off the table. The first one to do this will win. The concept follows the same as pool with a little strategic elements of shuffleboard. Unfortunately while the concept and idea is there, however the execution isn't. For starters in order to enjoy this game, you will need two players with the same I-Phone, and must play over the same Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connection. Players must be in the same location and from there put your phones together to create the board. There is really not much to do with Carpet Ball unless you have a friend, the fun factor dies down after a few games, just hit the cue ball to your opponents side until you knock it out. The graphics isn't really the best and it's seems very generic. Unfortunately the app doesn't have much to offer, and the fact you need two phones, a Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connection and another friend to play is disappointing. With a price tag of $.99 you can try it for yourself and see, but I can't really co-sign this one.

Fertang Review (Mobile App)

"Fertang" is a new Mobile App board game available for the I-Phone and Android App from Anderson Games. It's a little style of Checkers, with the strategy of Chess. Is this new board game app addictive? Or should you head somewhere else?

If I can describe "Fertang" in a few words is addictive, unique, and bold. "Fertang" was designed for people who are tired of Checkers, and find Chess to complicated. The game is simple to play and easy to learn after a few tries. You have the option to play against the CPU or with a friend. Each player is giving 16 pieces which is divided into Triangles, Squares and Circles. The goal is to capture as much of the players pieces as possible. Similar to Checkers, but with a twist of Chess. Each piece moves in a different directions. Triangle can only go diagonally, Circle can move any direction and Square can move in straight lines horizontally. Like Chess and Checker style each player gets one turn and can only move one piece at a time. One a piece is capture, the player who capture it controls that piece, until the other player captures it that is. Once the stack reaches 5 or more that piece is no longer in use. The first player to build up three of the five stacks is the winner. The game is challenging and thinking of new strategies to win the day is fun. "Fertang" doesn't come with much features, but it does give you the option of selecting different gameboards such as the original Chess board. The graphics are  standard for your typical board game app, and the colors work well. The only complaint about the App is the loop music, but thankfully you have the option to turn it off.

Final Grade B+/8.5: "Fertang" is a nice take on Checkers and Chess. It's easy to learn and after a couple of tries you'll be hook. The graphics are good, the gameplay fun and with a price of .99 it's worth a look. Give it a shot.
