Super Doctor K Volume 1 (Manga Review)

Doctor K is a doctor with exceptional skill. Graduated from a top-tier, high profile medical college, instead of working in a hospital or running his own clinic, he prefers to live his life wandering around to treat people in needs of help. Being observant, this make K diagnosis the patient symptom quickly. However, his outstanding skill that always leave the other doctor in awe is his surgery skill-the way he uses his knife is extremely quick and precise. His patient comes from all walk of live, from an ordinary young kids who is a nobody that don't know who K is to a high profile people who have heard about his skill and needs him for his medical skills.

Super Doctor K is a beautifully drawn, written manga. This book will have you reading until the very end. One of the great things about this manga is our protagonist Doctor K is shrouded in mystery. Not much is known about his life, backstory or what drives. Truthfully all we know is his first name and that he works independently. Usually that type of storytelling doesn't work for me. However the way the story is presented works for this type of manga. The story is divided into chapters, each of them having separate story of Doctor K helping people. While this format fits this story because the character is always on the move. I felt that it sometimes comes off repetitive. The patient gets injured and it's usually a life threatening injury. Nobody but Doctor K will treat the patient. Doctor K then treats the patient and he moves on. It's like this until the very last two chapters where Doctor K gets a little more personality. The last two chapters we learn more about K and his decisions have people wanting him dead. I enjoyed these chapters the most because it raised the bar from previous chapters. You actually feel that Doctor K is in serious danger and won't make it out. It was these tense moments that will keep me reading this manga.

The art style looks great. Although I can't help but think of Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star when I look at Doctor K. Their likeness is just too similar for me not to make that comparison. The medical surgery scenes are spot on. The artist reall details what certain parts of the human body really look like. It adds a level of intensity that compliments the script. If your use to the Shonen style you will love the way this manga looks.

Overall Super Doctor K is a fun manga. It can get a tad repetitive but when it does adds personality it's a great read. The art is good and Doctor K mysterious persona will keep you reading.
