Anime NYC Welcomes Toru Furuya!

 Anime NYC powered by Crunchyroll today announced legendary voice actor Toru Furuya will make his first appearance in New York City at Anime NYC 2018. Anime NYC is New York’s largest anime, manga, and Japanese pop culture convention, and this year’s event takes place November 16-18 in the Javits Center in Midtown Manhattan and will welcome over 30,000 fans. Mr. Furuya is Anime NYC 2018’s inaugural Japanese guest announcement, and he joins prominent American voice actors including Max Mittelman, Ray Chase, and Robbie Daymond.

Mr. Furuya is one of the most recognized voice actors in Japan with a career spanning over 50 years and a resume over 100 titles. He’s beloved by generations for giving voice to heroes including:

  • Tuxedo Mask in Sailor Moon
  • Amuro Ray in Mobile Suit Gundam
  • Yamcha in Dragon Ball
  • Sabo in One Piece
  • Pegasus Seiya in Saint Seiya
  • Rei Furuya in Detective Conan

He’s additionally voiced characters in notable works including Black JackBleachCasshern SinsDr. SlumpEureka Seven: Hi-EvolutionExpelled from ParadiseGintamaGundam 00Kimagure Orange RoadMarmalade BoyPaprika, and Space Battleship Yamato.

“Toru Furuya is a legend,” said Peter Tatara, Anime NYC’s Show Director. “He’s the breath behind some of the most iconic characters in the history of Japanese animation, and we couldn’t be more honored to welcome him to New York to meet all the fans who’ve been shaped by his voice.”

“Being able to go to New York, which is the center of the United States, no, the world, is exciting,” said Mr. Furuya.“I look forward to meeting the fans in New York and exploring all the places that, up until now, I have only seen in movies!”

Mr. Furuya will appear at Anime NYC on Friday, November 16 and Saturday, November 17. He will participate in on-stage events and conduct rare signings with fans both days. More details about his schedule will be revealed later this summer.
