Interview With E.G. Daily

By Justin D Williams

I had the honor and pleasure to interview a woman I've been a fan of since I was little. I watched her as Dottie in Pee Wee's Big Adventure and became hooked with her performances as Tommy Pickels and Buttercup. I had the pleasure of chatting with no other than E.G. Daily. We talk about music, voice acting, her funny blooper on stage and many more.

Otakus & Geeks: Do you remember when you caught the acting the bug and do you remember your first role?

E.G. Daily:  The first role was Rita on an episode of Lavern N Shirely that was a long time ago. I fell in love in it when I use to watch movies that were so great. I really wanted to be in them. I want to be in that location, I want to be in that time period. I always had a fascination of experiences living different lives, different cultures and movies and television allows you to do that.

Otakus & Geeks: Something I’ve always been fascinated with anyone who does voice acting. When did you find out you the talent of doing all those voices?

E.G. Daily: I kind of always did voices even as a kid. I didn’t think anything of them. I thought it was one of those weird things I can do, like you know how some kids are double jointed and some kids have weird talents. When I was kid I did a play and had to do all these different stage ranges for the play. Someone heard me and was like you’re really good with your voice should really look into voice acting. I was singing and acting was kind of in the same realm. I was suggested this agent who turned out the agent that landed me Rugrats and I’ve been with him ever since.

Otakus & Geeks: Speaking of Rugrats did think Rugrats would be as huge as it is?

E.G. Daily:  I had no clue it would. I went into the auditioned found out that I got the part. About a year and a half we got picked up for me episodes. Then we won an Emmy, and then came the walk of fame and another Emmy and then movies. Rugrats kept going to another level after another level it’s really amazing.

Otakus & Geeks: Do you have a favorite Rugrats episode?

E.G. Daily: I really enjoyed the Nakey episode that was fun a one and all of the holiday episodes are some of my favorites.

Otakus & Geeks: One of my favorites is definitely The Mother’s Day Episode very touching. Let’s transition from voice acting to singing. You were on The Voice. The judges were shock what was that like on to be on the show?

E.G. Daily:  It was great because when your own stage you can be yourself when it comes to singing. The judges didn’t know till later that it was me, but the fans new who I was. Like oh my God that’s Dottie.

Otakus & Geeks: Speaking of Dottie it’s the 30th Anniversary of Pee Wee Herman. What was it like filming that and working with Paul (Pee Wee)?

E. G. Daily: Dottie was a fun character to play and working Paul was great. He really is one of the sweetest guys. We catch up from time to time with a text to wish me Happy Birthday and things like that.

Otakus & Geeks: Back to music do you have some musical influences and are you working on any new material?

E.G. Daily: Yes I’m currently working on some new stuff writing and recording with some producers from Europe. I listen to a lot of artist from Beyonce, Michael Jackson, John Legend to name a few, many different genres and styles.

Otakus and Geeks: Have you ever had a blooper whether acting or music that you can share?

E.G. Daily: I was performing on stage and the show is ended so I’m thanking everyone for coming. I go inside this door which I thought was an exit and it turned out to be a closet (laughs).

Otakus and Geeks: One rumor I kept hearing over the years is that the Powerpuff Girls are coming back. Is there any truth to that?

E.G. Daily: We recorded the pilot for the new show. Then something happen where a new person was in charge and they decided to recast and do a new Powerpuff Girls with a brand new cast.

Otakus and Geeks: Final question what’s up next for E.G. Daily and how can fans keep updated?
