Shimoneta: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn't Exist (Manga Review)

Set 16 years after the "Law for Public Order and Morals in Healthy Child-Raising" banned coarse language in the country. Tanukichi Okuma enrolls in the country's leading elite public morals school and is soon invited into the Anti-Societal Organization (SOX) by its founder, Ayame Kajō. As a member blackmailed into joining by Ayame, Tanukichi ends up taking part in obscene acts of terrorism against the talented student council president Anna (for whom Tanukichi has a crush).

I have read a lot of manga that had me saying OH MY GOD! Or had me questioning what is going over there in Japan. Shimoneta: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn't Exist is one of those manga's. If you're a person who considers themselves to be politically correct, PG or easily offended by perverted jokes. This is not the manga for you. Shimoneta: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn't Exist is a manga that has one of the most interesting concepts I have read to date. As describe in the synopsis above coarse language and sexual expression are forbidden. If any of these acts are seen or displayed in public you can be thrown in jail or worst. This leaves the country filled sexual frustrated, restricted and in fear of repercussions. Enters Ayame Kajo who is feels the world should be free of such restrictions. She goes on the mission to restore order by taken the identity of a crusader for the pervs. A symbol that the country needs she becomes The Blue Snowfield.

I won't get into more details of the plot because it will spoil the humor. This manga is hilarious from the characters, concept and dialogue. The way the characters interact with each other trying to hide their inner urges is hilarious. Ayame reacts by putting on panties as a mask and spreads porno mags across the land. Some characters go all out in hilarious ways to express themselves. Throughout all the humor, fan service and pervy jokes. This manga also has a underlining theme of the importance of social expression and oppression. This is something I wasn't expecting from a comedy manga but it nails it theme right on the head. Finally the art style is great, it does have fan service but it''s has a purpose to the story. If you want a laugh out loud manga, and are not sensitive to sexual jokes and nature this is the book for you.
