An Open Letter to Cosplayers @NYCC 2015

Written by: Young Jeohn

So when was the last time you saw Batman walking down the street alongside the Master Chief, Starfire and Deadpool? Might it have been during a fantastic gathering called New York Comic Con, just a short year ago? Yup, it's that time of year again - the annual craziness of star studded panels, world renowned comic artists, swag, swag, swag, and of course, the costumed goodness of just about every comic and anime character ever made.

But this year, I recken you'll see a smaller number of Cosplayers walking towards Javits from Penn Station, because after all, the new 7-line station is strategically placed right on Javit's doorstep. And talk about just in time too. It's gotten really chilly this past week and you have to wonder how all the brave souls in their (sometimes, very skimpy) outfits manage to get there without freezing their hineys off.

As in years past, I'll join Otakus & Geeks to (dis)cover the extraordinary cosplayers and their creations as we cover the event live. And to my darling Cosplayers-at-arms whom I've gotten to know over the years (includes you, Photobomb-Deadpool), I'm looking forward to seeing what new and wonderful costumes you've come up with to share with this fun packed and caring community. Let's take some great photos and show the world what you've got!

Otakus and Geeks are doing something special this year, and I call it the Times Square Cosplay Special. We all know the red steps of Times Square, do we not? The same steps on which Jay-Z and Alicia Keys sang "Empire State of Mind"? We at O&G have decided to make that Empire dream come true by reserving those same iconic steps for a special 1-2 hour photoshoot just for Cosplayers!

There's limited space on those steps, but we'd love for you to be there and have a great time with a select cadre of talented photographers (who somehow seem to already know it's happening - as evidenced by the flood of emails we've received.) You can go to the event page on Facebook here:

and hit "Going". We do ask that if you change your mind, you "Un-go" yourself.

So what'll I be doing? I'll be the guy with this cheesy homemade cape taking photos. Hopefully of you!

See you soon,
