It's Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong Review
/An attraction forms when a Chinese American girl visiting Hong Kong for the first time meets an American expat who shows her the way, but timing may not quite be on their side. A walk and talk romance set in the beautiful city of Hong Kong, the film asks the question - what happens when you meet the right person at the wrong time?
It's Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong is a romance movie I've been waiting for. Not only does it just focus on two characters throughout the film. The movie is realistic with it's approach. Watching this movie makes you believe that this can happen to you or me. There is no big declaration of love, or over the top speeches like you can complete me. This movie set up is simple and executed very well. Ruby played by Jamie Chung is lost in China and needs to get to her friends party. Enters Josh played by Josh Greenberg to help save the day. He offers to help show Ruby to the party since he is bored at the party he is at. She agrees to his help and begins the walk to the location.
Since I will not give any spoilers to the film because it's really worth watching. I will say this that watching this movie, will make you cheer for them to be together. However at the same time you won't them to be together. One thing the film does amazing is making you question destiny, soulmates and true love. Ruby and Josh are both in relationships with other people. However they have this amazing chemistry and makes you wonder if they are the better fit for each other. The acting is great with Greenberg and Chung showing how real life chemistry can translate on screen. Chung depicts Ruby as a fish out of water girl in China in the beginning, but when the film picks up you the layers of her character. She likes Josh but you can see she is torn knowing she has someone at home. It's refreshing to see a film focus on just the emotional chemistry and the impact it has on the characters. Emily Ting written and directed this film. For a first time director she did a wonderful job. She made sure to really film the China nightlife in all of it's glory. The cinematography is great and makes me want to book a flight there. The music is good for when it's use. Overall the film is solid with great acting, a wonderful ending and great direction.
