Ballers: Blu Ray Review

Ballers is an all-new HBO comedy that explores the sun-soaked world of a group of past and present football players in and around Miami, FL. Leading the pack is Spencer (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson), a retired football superstar who is trying to find a foothold as a financial manager to current players. In an industry where the career span is unbelievably short, Spencer and his crew must figure out where the game ends and life begins, all while keeping their cool and having each other's backs.

Ballers is a great series with drama, comedy and underlining message for anyone hoping to be in the sports. Each character in the series has a real life situation that many athletes deal with in today's world. Spencer (Johnson) is a retired player trying to make in his new career. But he also has tons of financial trouble and can't keep up with his lifestyle that he portray he has. Spencer character is an intriguing one and played very well by Johnson. However Spencer is not the only one that has problems. His friends/clients also have major hurdles to overcome. Spencer has to manage the finances and guide his clients. You have Ricky played by John Davis Robinson. Ricky is a PR nightmare and a definition of a superstar. He spends money like no tomorrow. He parties to hard and constantly gets in trouble. His antics cost him to struggle to get placed in a team. Next you have a Vernon who was great to watch but at the same time I was screaming at the screen the entire time. Vernon is a great example of you can't take everybody with you. He let's friends and family leech on his success and it's killing his pockets. The relationship of between Vern and Spencer was the most enjoyable to watch from a character perspective. Here you have a guy who sees where Vern is heading and wants to help. But you have Vern having loyalties to his manager and best friend. This conflict was the highlight drama and had some pretty tense moments. Finally you have Charles a guy who was on a team, retire but didn't really get the glory he sought. Charles is one of the guys who is not comfortable with retire life. He has a problem finding a job and will get one shot at glory.

Overall Ballers Season 1 is a fun show to watch. It gives you a accurate depiction of life of an NFL player. The show has a underlining theme of money and management. The show contains great acting, deep characters. The BLU-RAY is available now.
