Oasis Games PSVR Showcase

Last week I had the pleasure of checking out some upcoming virtual reality games coming to the Playstation VR. The good folks at Oasis Games hosted the event and I must say that I had a blast playing these games. The first game I played was a game entitled "Weeping Doll."

Weeping Doll

Weeping Doll is a dark, story-driven psychological adventure where dolls come alive, animated and fueled by the negative thoughts of their child owners. Players must solve difficult puzzles in eerie surroundings as a tortured girl’s doll takes revenge on her parents—and things only get scarier from there! Explore environments in first-person view as the surprising truths of the storyline are slowly uncovered. Developed by TianShe Media, Weeping Doll is scheduled to launch October 27.

Impressions: Weeping Doll was a nice callback to the point and click mysteries of the 90's early 2000's. Fans of such games such as D and Myst will fit right at home with Weeping Doll. The controls did take a little bit of getting use too. With the games making use of all the buttons on the PS4 and using the motion aspect of the VR prove to be a little bit of a 5 minute learning curve. However once you get into gear with the controls you can fully emerge yourself into the game. The graphics were pretty good and I didn't feel any sort of discomfort in my 20 minute play-through the game. The environment and sound did the game justice as each corner, sound and element had me either looking at every detail for clues or waiting for a jump scare. The games puzzles range from normal difficulty to challenging. The puzzles were the highlight of my play-through. There was a puzzle where I had to reassemble painting on the wall and find the pieces in the room. It took a little bit of thinking but it was rewarding once I completed it. Overall Weeping Doll was a great nostalgic trip with a horror twist and theme.

Ace Banana

Complete with single player and multiplayer co-op gameplay, Ace Banana features full-filled bright environments with comical weapons, outrageous enemies and wacky soundtrack that families will go bananas for intuitive controls and challenging levels that are quickly learned but slowly mastered will make Ace Banana a favorite of PlayStation®VR early adopters. In the game, players assume the role of a Banana Archer, the world-famous protectors of bananas. In opposition are hordes of mischievous monkeys, set on stealing bananas from the player’s stash. As the enemies arrive in waves, players use the PlayStation®Move controllers to mimic drawing, aiming and shooting their bow with an arsenal of arrows ranging from plungers to fish and even pandas! Players will need to stay on their toes as when all their bananas are stolen, the game is over! Developed by TVR, Ace Banana is scheduled to launch on October 13.

Impressions: Ace Banana utilized the Playstation Move controllers and this game gave me a real interactive experience. As seen in the picture above the idea of the game is protect the bananas from the mischievous apes. You hold the two controllers like you're shooting a bow and arrow. The game was very precise with it's targeting system and very easy to play. The graphics were done well. The game gets more challenging as you progress to each level. The apes get more mobilized and start to become strategist. Some apes will come from higher ground while others will come from the side. I found myself shooting faster with each level. The game does give your arms a good workout.

Pixel Gear

Pixel Gear is a colorful 3D pixel shoot-em-up with a variety of humorous cartoon monsters, zombies and ghosts as enemies to defeat. The game includes 6 levels that are filled with a variety of interactive objects that exhibit entertaining reactions when hit, and a host of upgradeable weapons as well as defensive objects that grant the ability to slow down or even stop time. Developed by Geronimo Interactive, Pixel Gear is scheduled to launch on October 20.

Impressions: Pixel Gear was the last game I played. This game was addictive. Fans of point and shoot games like Duck Hunt or even Time Crisis will love this. The graphics fit well with the world established. This game used the Playstation Move for the gameplay using the controller to aim and the back button to shoot. The game is played through waves for each section or location. The higher the wave the more challenging the enemies and more careful you have to be with targets. The game will throw angels at you that you must not shoot or it will hurt your score or worst. Pixel Gear is going to be on the VR games on the PSVR that the kids are definitely going to love. Other games coming you can check out below.
