Rainbow Crow Impressions (Tribeca Film Festival VR)

Written by Justin D Williams

From the director of Madagascar, INVASION! (Tribeca 2016), and ASTEROIDS! (Sundance 2017) comes Baobab Studio's latest visionary VR animation. The carefree forest animals imagine spring will last forever. However, winter comes and the animals soon realize that their lives are in danger. What they need is a hero; what they need is Rainbow Crow.

Virtual Reality is proving to be a force that can't be ignored. Rainbow Crow is a very fun experience. The story is something that the whole family will enjoy. I had the pleasure of trying this short at Tribeca Film Festival Virtual Arcade. The minute I put the VR headset on I was in this world. The graphics were spot on I was looking down and the grass, the trees and the animals were up close as the film the pan out. The great thing about VR is that you are your own cameraman. You can look up and down, pay attention to action or just look forward and watch the film play out. Rainbow Crow is completely immersive and the tone is something the whole family will enjoy. John Legend provides the music for the episode and if you listen carefully you can hear him singing deep into the forest. The story I saw was just a introduction into the world. The animals have their own characteristics. One is spunky, the other one is more reserved but they are all looking for a the hero that is Rainbow Crow. Who is Rainbow Crow? Well the cliffhanger has me waiting for me and the 4 min tease did enough to have me wanting to watch this with kids in my family.

Overall Rainbow Crow is looking to be one fun VR ride for the whole family. It's totally safe on the eyes for people who wear glasses. The graphics is beautiful, the environment is very immersive and it has John Legend doing the music. The direction and characters are wonderful and this something you want to check out.
