Directed & produced by Young Jeohn

This artist-support hand model was designed to help artists draw beautiful hands.

It’s a collaboration between Takahiro Kagami, a key animator who is super-well regarded for his hands (credits include YuGiOh, Slam Dunk, Death Note, My Hero Academia, Pokemon, One Piece, Street Fighter Zero, and the list goes on…) and Kotobukiya’s leading sculptor, Tsukuru Shirahige.

These model hands have incredible movement and very closely resemble the look of real hands in any pose, like a fist, peace sign or even Mr Spock’s “live long and prosper”.

We even did a little “hand pose” challenge and found it could emulate practically all poses we could think of. To me, the hand was also able to mimic feelings to some extent, when posed in specific ways. You’d have to really think about the feeling and make tiny changes as necessary.

It was originally launched as a crowd-funded project in Japan, but apparently it was so successful (they reached 4,800% of goal!) they decided to manufacture it for distribution in the US also.

Believe me when I tell you, this is every artist’s dream come true. At least when it comes to those who want to draw beautiful hands.

Availability (Japan release) is March for the right hand, and June for the left hand. It comes in white or gray. It comes with 2 bases to position either vertical or horizontal.
