RUNE Boutique World Debut

"Transmitting the tradition of kawaii from Japan to the rest of the world"

You don't have to be into fashion hard for this one! You just need to know the word "kawaii" and while it is Japanese for "cute", saying anything other than kawaii just doesn't hold the sale weight. All lolitas, otakus, fashionistas & such have the one and only Rune Naito to thank for that!

Since Naito's passing in 2007, the kawaii surge has been on a rise, though that's an understatement. As a lolita, I was extremely happy to see that the home to the Rune Naito Boutique launch was in Los Angeles. However, just like trying to get to Japan for such marvelous events & gatherings, I was not able to make it to LA ... Mostly due to timing and being on tour in Atlanta, and paryly due to $$$ ... BUT ...

I made a call & after a bit of begging and pleading (not really, but I did ask nicely and bat my eyelashes LOL), my good friend, artist collegue, and collective member - Kelly Crown (@crowniemarie) - agreed tongo in my stead. While I forgot to ask her if she attelpted to dress the part for the occassion, she did report that I'd have experienced a bit of sugar overload & lost myself in the expereince. Simply put, it was KAWAII (duuuhhhhh!)

Here is some of the best that K. Crown had to offer for experiencing such a history making event.
If you're in the LA Area, be sure to visit the Rune Boutique before it closes, January 9, 2012.

I PROMISE it wouldn't be a wasted effort ... Eveyone's a bit kawaii at heart ;-) ~je t'adore

Ohiya & "Imani" Munny Goodness

What otaku couldn't appreciate a well put together collectible vinyl toy? Well! It just so happens that some dots connected between myself, Tharp (the artist of Ohiya Friends), and NYCC. If you don't remember the coverage of Ohiya that I posted from NYCC, be sure to check it out HERE.

In support of such a great brand, I took a gamble and signed up for a raffle, in which the winner would get a customized toy. Little did I KNOW that I would actually win.  Below is the account, as seen by Ohiya artist, Tharp, as it all went down.

This is the result of the drawing we had during the NYCC at the Ohiya booth.  After the show I took all the entries threw in a bag and drew the winner's name- Imani K. Brown and she even has her own website
www.artisticsole.com.   Once I contacted Imani we worked out colors, and any other theme of her choosing.  She passed on her logo to me and I kinda used that for some inspiration.   The result was really one of my favorites to date!! I was sad to send it out put it is clear that Imani will give it a great home.   The fun part is working on a piece that is inspired by something that the winner is into . To me, it really drives home the mission of Ohiya "the art of making friends".  Its a really fun way of getting to know someone...Enjoy!

Something also new and different about this one is I filmed the whole painting process and will be posting it on  www.ohiyafriends.com &www.tharpsmart.com.

Here are some flicks after I shared with Tharp after I received my new boo. Can you believe it though!? Imani's ALREADY making friends ;-D

"Money can't buy happiness, my friends, but it can buy the next best thing... other people's unhappiness."

This yummy piece of goodness is already in its second printing and the creators are also digging into Tales of Hot Rod Horror 2 ... so stay tuned!

Alex Pardee Goodness!

Of course! Still being on my high from LA & San Fran's art scene (that's about to shift because I'm on a plane to London on Monday!) I would be likely to find one of San Fran's talented artists ... maybe ever?, Alex Pardee! While I'm not aware of being graced with his work while I was our west, I'm quite familiar with some of his inner workings!
Artistically, I'd say we're related ... something like distant cousins, possibly twice removed, as our represented works have a gallery in common - Art Whino. With that being said, I'll bypass the standard "about this guy's work" spill ... and let it speak for itself!

First up! ... Sucker Punch!
I'll keep my personal feelings about Sucker Punch to myself and accept that the flawless saving grace for me tolerating this movie was the yummy eye candy of costumes and art. It's pleased me even more to know that Perdee was the brains behind the art game!

Next UP! ... CAGE's covers!
One of Definitive Jux's secret weapons, Cage, has been blessed with some Perdee goodness, too! He IS the man behind Cage's past albums, Hell's Winter and Depart From Me.
I had a chance to tattoo a piece that was in Depart From Me's liner notes ... it was one of the most enjoyable experiences to temporarily get lost in is world through his characters.

As a tip, my customer blessed me with some of his original art!

Last, but NOT least ... Perdee's got TOOYYSS!!!!!
Check out his Walrus Rider. If no where eles, you can certainly buy it at Art Whino! I don't think I really need to say anything except ... who doesn't looove collecting cool vinyl figures! His are beyond cool ... so THERE! :-P

It doesn't really stop with this guy so I'll just share some of the eye candy I found super sexy!!!! Some geek related & some just plain ol' COOL!

be sure to follow along on tumblr as we informally post art & fashion weekly!
til next time!

Adam's Morgan Day :: Art & Fashion!

Adam's Morgan Day is a great outdoor festival for one of the most eccentric melting pots of neighborhoods in Washington, DC. -Adam's Morgan. As invitees, Indian Pussy Brand moved their goodies from Artistic Sole headquarters to 18th Street, NW in the heart of Adam's Morgan.
Once I got settled I decided to take a stroll & find some otaku goodness to share! OZKER of Sleeper Cell Productions & Indian Pussy Brand model/ noted piercer, Sarah, & Seven stayed back at our temporary headquarters partying with the good people interested in our art!

On my stroll, it was a pleasure to run into one of our good friends, Kelly Chin, of Chinhamaya Organization. Kelly is GREAT! Not only is she the area's adopted mom for us otakus ... & geeks!, but she also oversees a youth taiko drumming group. The kids in the group are amazingly talented and dedicated to their individual arts. Kelly's super power is that she specializes in making kimekomi dolls.
If you're ever in the area and want to take a class of how-to's ... be sure to check her out!

Mean while ...

Back at the tent, The Peligro Brothers, DJ Provoke & OZKER, are getting it in! I think by the time I stopped back in, they were on to some dance music & kept the crowd there!

Since everyone was occupied and happy, I snuck off to see t-shirts! In REAL LIFE ... what otaku, fan boy/girl, or every day person does not need a dope tee in their life!
Please, do me a solid & check out these tees from Fuzzy Ink. Their tagline is "It'll grow on you" ... and trust!, it doesn't take very long.
Be sure to check out their sight for some cool fashionably affordable tees!

Well! I had to get back & shut down shop, so til next week ...

ShoTokyo LA's Toy District

I couldn't help but revisit some photos of art taken on my awesome trip to LA. There was one wall that I kept going back to & I think it's well worth the share!

Unfortunately, I have yet to find out who the artist is responsible for this great work, but I'm pounding the pavement to get that skinny!

Until then, I hope you enjoy just as much as I did!

An Art Hold-UP with ASYLM

For those of you who follow me on Twitter or FB (ArtisticSole), you'd know that I took an awesome trip to San Francisco to help promote . Within that trip was a mini-trip to LA! At some point of trying to find Sean D'anconia's art goodness in LA's Little Tokyo & a few complaints of needing to find a bathroom AND another beer, we pranced ourselves into a cool jazz club. The time spent there was great ... until we stepped back out on the streets of Little Tokyo to find these amazing pieces right under our noses!

The works are of an artist, Asylm. And similar to my findings with Silo, I can't find too much info on him. At any rate, here are some of his works in Little Tokyo with people holding it up for art ... fingers crossed & all!
Be sure to visit his site and check out his FINE ART & PUBLIC WORKS. It's simply amazing!

My gracious hostess, tour guide, & homegirl Kelly Crown throwing it up for art & for ASLYM's art!

The Works of Silo

Oh Silo!

This artist's work was sent to me by a twitter buddy for my eyecandy enjoyment. However, his works were soooooo awesomely upchucked organize mess of cool anime characters & typography that I couldn't resist sharing.

The upside-even if you aren't an art geek, you'll definitely enjoy the feel of his work.

The downside-I haven't found much about him as an artist, however his work speaks for itself, so I guess enough said.

To keep in that tradition though, I shared with you the works of Silo. Be sure to scroll down after all the kawaii goodness, though, for more links where I've found Silo's art lurking.

The Pop Art Goodness of Sean D'anconia

As an artist with LOTS going on, and no real intentions of stopping, I can appreciate another artist who "does it all".

In last week's post, I mentioned that we'd look more into some of the artists whose Hello Kitty goodness was shared last week. As promised!, The work of Sean D'anconia is something SCHWWWEEEETTTT! I mean, this guy has REALLY laid out the artistic red carpet and has definitely done it for the world to see. I won't go into much, but I am definitely sharing some of my fav art works. hopefully, it'll be enough for you to want to run to his site and witness for yourselves! Peep his bio. His work is NUTZ!

Be sure to check out more on his POP ART, PROJECTS, & BRANDS ... it's so yummy! I PROMISE!
